Thank you Old Man Winter
The poor guy’s been getting a lot of flack here in the NE coast these days. Thought I’d give him a shout out.
We’ve been having a snowy winter and people are complaining. What an ungrateful, whiny bunch! Hey, myself included. I just CANNOT WAIT for the Spring, and more importantly, the Summer! If it doesn’t snow, we fear global warming. When it snows, we groan. Seriously, I think we’re all losing it!
But yesterday morning, when I looked through my window, I thought: “This is good.” And then: “No, really, this is good!” I convinced myself that Old Man Winter is a neat guy, and made a drawing for him. I signed it:
Love, Despina

A holiday that baffles me, I guess because of its origins and popularity. But it’s for love, and I’m all for that.
This is from a project about the marriage of Peleus and Thetis. In Greek mythology, it is one of the many events that got the Trojan War rolling.
Aah, the power of love!
“and a kiss to seal the deal…”

Darwin. What a guy.
From a few years back, an editorial piece on the subject of Evolution.

Second Night: Jazz at Lincoln Center
This time around was quite different! The Rose Theatre couldn’t be more different from Dizzy’s. A whole other experience. It was great.
The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra led by Wynton Marsalis put on such a beautiful show. And all along, projected onto jumbo screens above the orchestra, was a slideshow of some of the most important art of the 20th century. It was magical.
Among the many talented musicians were Ted Nash(alto sax), Ryan Kisor(trumpet), Chris Crenshaw(trombone), Victor Goines(tenor sax), Carlos Henriquez(bass), Nathalie Bonin(violin), and Papo Vazquez(trombone).
Here are some drawings of the night.

Yes, that means that there will be a second night! I am so excited to go back and draw some more music!
But for now, here’s a few drawings I made at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, at Jazz at Lincoln Center. It was dark, the city skyline was the backdrop, and the music was so incredible! At one point, Greg reached over and suggested I use the crayons on black paper. “I think you’ll have fun with these” And I did! I can’t wait to go back and draw more!
Thanks Sue!! You’re awesome. And thanks to all the wonderful people we met that night!
